Specializing in assisting start-ups and existing departments to Train your HR - HR

Hello,
I am Tonya D. McKissack, CHR, MPA, and M.S.Ed., from Cleveland, Ohio. I am a highly educated, trained, and experienced HR professional with over 30 years of Human Resource Management experience. I have worked as a Director, Manager, and Sr. Generalist in for-profit and non-profit organizations ranging from neighborhood multi-service centers, community action agencies, behavioral health, healthcare, museums, county government, education, technological, IT, financial services, etc. I have managed highly impactful HR offices and have been responsible for administering HR services for twenty-five to thousands of employees. I hold a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a certificate in HR Management from Baldwin-Wallace University, a Master's of Public Administration with a Non-profit Management specialization, and a Master's of Education in Adult Education & Leadership.
Over the last three decades, I have successfully built, created, and managed fully functional HR departments for start-ups and existing businesses. A master of implementing and managing “Best Practices” in HR that can be applied to any industry and business to ensure successful compliance structures. I am a uniquely qualified, experienced and dedicated HR professional encompassing a foundational and broad spectrum of human resource policies, procedures and programming, including the whole life cycle of mass recruitment strategies, FMLA, analysis, and enrollment of all benefit structures, strategic HR management advisement, C-Suite management collaboration, change management tactics, and communication of all HR informatics. Strong command of Federal, State, and local employment laws, compliance, accreditation standards, compensation and HRIS/payroll plans, employee engagement strategies, employee performance management, associate recognition programming, execution in planning "fun" employee events, succession planning expertise, employee relations/conflict resolution.
While in several roles as Director of HR, I was directly responsible for developing and implementing the organization's human resources strategy, policies, and practices to support the organization's mission and goals. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position oversaw all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, compliance, and non-profit accreditation with applicable employment laws and regulations.
My Story
My story starts with humble beginnings while attending John Marshall High in Cleveland, Ohio. I was a student in the Cooperative Office Education (COE) program and a Lawyerette (a high stepper for our basketball team). While in COE, I took advantage of the program and began my first receptionist/secretary job at a major financial institution while maintaining a 3.8 GPA in the 11th and 12th grades. My duties in the personnel department were primarily clerical. However, this is where I developed a passion for what is now Human Resource Management. I have seen the advent of this old but new landscape change over the last two decades, as Personnel Management evolved into Human Resources, People and Culture, Human Capital Operations, etc.
From the bank, I went on to work as a contractor and full-time employee at various establishments of - Thorn International, Wyndham/Hilton Hotels, Cleveland Clinic, CGI, City of East Cleveland, Applied Industrial Technologies, Huntington National Bank, Cuyahoga County, Lorain County Community Action Agency, the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, Recovery Resources and the Near Westside Multi-service Corporation. Several companies hired me as a contractor and consultant while completing my higher education studies. I graduated from Baldwin-Wallace University, majoring in Psychology and double majoring in HR Management. I then went to the University of Akron and obtained a Master's in Public Administration, specializing in non-profit management. I then attended Ashland University and received a Master's in Education, specializing in Adult Education & Leadership. I am an expert trainer. Not only from experience at numerous establishments, but I was also two classes away from a Master's in Teaching & Training Technical Professionals at the University of Akron; however, the University cancelled the program before I could finish the graduate degree.
In addition, I proudly honor that I have strong success in HR "Best Practices", process improvement and change management, coordination for annual benefit enrollment, consulting management for labor relations, hearing officer, sound decision making ability, hearing of union and non-union grievance issues, training and development, engaging adult facilitator, staff development initiatives driving corporate goal attainment, on-boarding process to corporate policies and procedures—expert communicator with the ability to resolve conflicts to win employee report and develop and implementfor effective employee communication strategies.
